If you’ve ever considered outsourcing your writing to a copywriter, you might be wondering this question for yourself. Maybe you don’t want to ask it out loud or you’re not sure if it would be offensive to the writer. Whatever boat you find yourself in relating to giving credit for writing, I hope this post helps clear up some of your questions!
I write FOR you
While I’m happily involved in as much of the planning process as desired, I understand that at the end of the day, your business is your baby. For this reason, I understand the importance of deciding what is written. Whether it’s your blog posts, your newsletter, or your social media content, the topics and ideas that get covered are done on your terms.
For many clients, I’ll brainstorm ideas ahead of time and get approval prior to writing. For others, I get sent a list of topics and those are the topics I write on. You’re in control of the content that gets written so that you can be sure it represents your business in the right light. You’re in control of the approval of the content, meaning you can request endless revisions or give me permission to post as soon as it’s completed. Whatever way you work, we make it work!
All this to say, these topics, ideas, and thoughts will stem from your head. Just think of me as the creative part of the process that gets to flush them out, make them sound good, and make them look pretty!
Bottom line: Since it’s all written FOR you, I require no credit.
I write AS you
This part is the most fun to me. I get to take on your identity as I write. For this reason, it’s extremely important that I get to know your voice beforehand. I’ll look at previous content, paying attention to the subtle things that make your voice yours. This means I pay attention to the tone of your writing, the humor you tie in, the seriousness you take on when approaching certain topics, and more.
Because I am writing AS you, my voice is not entering the picture at all. It no longer sounds like a copywriter is writing it for you, but like you wrote it yourself.
I would also like to take this opportunity to give a little disclaimer that this can take a little bit of time to perfect. The “getting to know you” process might mean that we require a little more back and forth at the beginning of our work together to get it perfect.
Once we get there, though, the rest is history.
You (and your clients) begin to read the content you post as if you were the one writing it. I promise, I’m cool with giving you all the credit. Because you deserve it!
Bottom line: Since it’s all written AS you, I require no credit.
At the end of the day, it simplifies your job. It gives you that consistent content that you want while giving you back your time and energy. While before you might have spent days (or weeks even) looking at a blank page, brainstorming what to write, now it happens behind the scenes and gets delivered to you like a pretty package with a bow on top.
You don’t have to give me credit for anything that I write that you publish. In fact, I hope that you OWN it and share it with the world! I do what I do so that I can give people like you a voice in their business and give them the opportunity to show off what makes them so amazing.
If you have questions or want to talk about what this looks like more in-depth, let’s schedule it. I’d love to get to know you and your business. Get in touch HERE and we can find a time to connect.
Until next time,
